Day One
Reykjavik - Þingvellir - Geysir - Gullfoss - Kerlingafjöll - Hveravellir
First thing in the morning we are moving towards "Golden Cirkle", first stop - Þingvellir, National Park of Iceland which became a World Heritage Site. Þingvellir Park is situated on the north bank of Þingavallavatn lake and on the seismic area between the North American and Eurasian Plates. It is here where the first world Parliament was established in 930. This whole region is full of hiking trails in between the fissures, rocks and streams. Our next attraction is Gullfoss (golden waterfall). It is a beautiful waterfall created by river Hvita (white river). Water falls down here from the three-step "staircase" with a stunning rumble only to flow through the 70m deep and 2km long gorge. We will also stop at the most famous Icelandic geyser – Strokkur (the churn). Its turquois pool ejects a fountain of water up to 20-30m high. On the way to Hveravellir we will stop at the colourful highlands of Kerlingafjöll. Hveravellir is part of a large volcano system situated 650m over the sea level. Over here we have few hot springs and smoking fumarolees specific to this area — small openings in a planet's crust, which emits steam and gases. We are staying here overnight to have a swim in one of its hot springs.
Day Two
Hveravellir - Akureyri - Góðafoss - Aldeyjarfoss - Húsavik
We are moving early to Akureyri - second biggest town in Iceland full of small streets with colourful houses, restaurants and cafes. From here, we are moving to admire waterfalls – Góðafoss (waterfall of Gods) consisting of three parts which fall into a rocky canyon, and Aldeyjarfoss, one of the most photogenic waterfalls made out of basalt columns. We are now reaching Husavik, small town where we can stay overnight and where we can watch Puffins and take part in "whale watching" tour.
Day Three
Húsavik - Mývatn - Dettifoss - Askja
Early in the morning we are leaving Husavik heading to Myvatn, one of the most interesting places in Iceland, surrounded by volcanic landscape. Lake Myvatn was created 35000 years ago and its area is full of volcanic formations. We can also have a swim here in a hot lagoon – small and cosy hot spring. 15 km away from Myvatn is an ice cave Lofthellir. When exploring Lofthellir we are moving to an enchanted world - sparkling vaults and thick layer of clear ice underneath our feet, rooms full of figure like shapes made of ice. From Myvatn we are moving towards Dettifoss waterfall. It is a stunning waterfall that was featured in the 2012 science-fiction film Prometheus. From here we are heading to the Interior-Askja. Access to the caldera of Askja volcano goes via tricky route through the black dessert. Astonishing views like no other. It is where we can find two deepest lakes in Iceland, Öskjuvatn and Víti. Viti is filled with warm sulphur water which you can swim in. This is where we can stay overnight.
Day Four
Askja - Kverkfjöll - Landmannalaugar
Leaving Askji we are heading towards Landmannalaugar passing by the active volcano – Kverkfjöll, (1929m above the sea level). It is situated on the north border of the biggest glacier in Iceland - Vatnajökull which we will have a closer look at. Landmannalaugar is where we are taking a tour through the colourful mountains like “Blue Peak”, “Smoking Slopes” or “Orange Peak“. It is heaven for photography lovers. This is where we are staying overnight.
Day Five
Landmannalaugar - Vík - Dyrhóley - Skógar
After swimming in a hot spring, we are moving towards Vik with a stunning view to the black basalt sand beach. You can spot monumental cliffs here - a stroll around is a must. From Vik we are heading to Cape Dyrhóle - the Southernmost point in Iceland by 1918. We can admire its perpendicular cliffs with heights around 100-130m. The most impressive is Haidrangur - a narrow rock rim with an arch-shape opening through it, measuring 56m. In the black desert of Solheimasandur we can also discover a plane wreck. Next overnight stay is at Skogar where we can visit folk museum — a history of Iceland gathered in a small area but also a picturesque waterfall - Skogafoss, situated between extraordinary shaped cliffs.
Day Six
Skógar - Seljandafoss - Þorsmörk - Hveragerði - Reykjavik
During our last day we will stop at Seljandafoss waterfall. It is one of a few waterfalls where you can walk behind it. However, to do that we need to have an appropriate waterproof jacket but it is a magical place where time stops. Next is Þorsmörk. It is a National Park situated between three glaciers and majestic mountain chain. Due to its specific microclimate, quality of nature here is simply stunning with meadows, rivers, crystal clear streams and birch trees. Time for a relaxing stroll. Leaving Þorsmörk we are heading to Reykjavik but first we must stop at Hveragerdi. The mountains of Hveragerði seem to be almost alive, you can hear the earth hiss and gurgle. The area is covered by streams and rivers that constantly evaporate. We will be able to jump into one of them. Time for Reykjavik.
